Is 1 MB 1000 KB or 1024 KB?
The tool uses 1 MB = 1024 KB, and portals that count 1 MB as 1000 KB may need the 500 KB target to be safe.
Will it look worse?
Usually not noticeably: getting under 1 MB rarely needs more than screen-quality images (about 150 dpi).
My PDF is 50 MB. Can it reach 1 MB?
A long, photo-heavy file may not. Split it with Split PDF by Size, or remove pages you do not need, then compress each part.
